Lariat Necklace

A lariat necklace is a silver chain that does not have a clasp. Instead it is worn with a long strand that hangs free from a loop. It is elegant, simple and stylish and can look fantastic with a low cut dress to give emphasis to a cleavage.

There are many ways to wear a lariat chain and fashion designers are constantly thinking up news ways to use it. It can be wrapped around the neck a few times or just once and worn in a way similar to a tie. Some lariat chains are made of diamonds and these designs look amazing wrapped around the neck a few times with just a small drop at the end. Others are just made with silver and can be worn more casually and effortlessly, yet still looking great.

One way to wear your lariat is to fold it in half around your neck and then put the loose ends through the loop this has made. This is the simplest and easiest way to wear your lariat. Another way is to hang the chain once around your neck, cross it at the back and bring the ends round to the front. Then tie one end around the other end and the loop already around your neck and wriggle the strands to get them even. Or you can adapt this style so the ends are tied together but not around the first loop around your neck. Alternatively you could place the chain around your neck like a tie and tie together at the front. Even this look has its variations as you can tie it high with a long strand, or low with a short one. Pick whichever look you like best.

If you are getting married, a lariat chain could be a great way to show off your dress. Although all the ways to wear your lariat which have been suggested so far are to show off your cleavage, there is no reason why you can turn the necklace around to show off a low backed dress. This is perfect for a wedding as while you are saying your vows, most people are sitting or standing behind you and will get a nice view of your beautiful necklace.

Some designers have even suggested wearing the lariat as a belt instead of as a necklace. Weaving the chain through the belt loops in your trousers is a great way to dress up an ordinary pair of jeans or smart trousers. If tied properly, you can even wear it on the waist without belt loops, but make sure it fits properly on your hip bone or it could fall off without you realising and then you would lose your beautiful necklace.
